Course Description

This practical and highly-interactive course includes various practical sessions and exercises. Theory learnt will be applied using our state-of-the-art simulators. This course is designed to provide participants with a detailed and an up-to-date overview of ABB REF 542 & 545 for modern multifunction protection and switchgear control. It covers the different types of power system faults including their causes, effects and detection; the components of protection schemes that include the application of Programmable Logic Controllers, circuit breakers, current and voltage transformers; the various types of current transformers & voltage transformers; the application requirements of C.T.?s for protective relaying and accuracy classifications; the new numerical technology; the ABB modern power system protective relay families; and the power system neutral grounding for industrial plants and high-voltage substations. Further, the course will also discuss the ground-fault current and the reasons for limiting generator ground-fault current to a low value; the ground potential rise during power system faults; the proper feeder overcurrent protection; the protective relaying requirements for radial systems, relay setting criteria, load limitations and testing of overcurrent protection scheme; the proper coordination of electrical protection systems; the multifunction protection; the switchgear control unit REF 542plus and REF 542plus motor protection; the measurement supervision NPS and PPS; and the communication interfaces, test equipment and accessories.
